The Basics of 999 Purity

Most jewelry is 925 Sterling (92.5% silver, 7.5% copper). At YK Sterling, we use 999 Fine Silver (99.9% pure). It is whiter, more brilliant, and heavier than sterling. Because it lacks copper, it is also naturally hypoallergenic and highly resistant to deep tarnish.

Fine silver is naturally softer than sterling, which is why we work-harden our chains during the forging process and use substantial link thicknesses. Our chains are engineered for "Everyday Luxury"—durable enough for daily life while maintaining a solid, premium drape.

Daily Wear & Activity

Like all precious metals, silver will develop a unique "patina" over time with daily wear. Many of our customers prefer this softened look as it shows the history of the piece. However, because our silver is pure, a quick professional buffing can always restore it to its original mirror shine.

Yes. Since our 999 silver is nickel-free and lacks copper, it won't turn your skin green. We recommend rinsing with fresh water after salt-water or chlorine exposure to maintain the high-mirror luster.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Yes! That is the signature of 999 Purity. Standard sterling often has a greyish-yellow tint due to the copper content. Your YK Sterling chain has the true, brilliant "white" luster of pure silver.

Because 999 silver is so pure, maintenance is simple:

  1. Mild Soap: Use warm water and a drop of dish soap to remove oils.
  2. Microfiber: Dry with a soft, clean cloth.
  3. Polishing Cloth: Use a dedicated silver polishing cloth once a month to maintain the high-mirror luster. Avoid "silver dips" or harsh chemicals, as they aren't necessary for fine silver.
